Okay, like eight jillion of you told me about Ashes to Ashes (no Sam? no thanks!) so how come none of you mentioned the American Life On Mars?

I AM THERE. It will either be awesome or awesomely bad, and either way I will totally be there to watch it and possibly roast marshmallows over its flaming downfall.

AMERICAN TORCHWOOD IS NEXT, YO.

Hilarious trailer is hilarious.

My textiles teacher grew a mustache >:(
He looks so strange noww wwww ww

Anyway, here are some doodles I did in English today, lol just heads staring around as usual

Things are going a little better in general. Some of my relationships have grown a little strained and/or one-sided and I can't seem to help looking at things that stress me out or hurt my feelings (Ima glutton for pain, I know :\   I feel like those who have been dumped and then cant stop looking at their exboy or girlfriendss's myspaces for weeks and weeks would be able to sympathize), but when I focus on other things, I do much, much betterrrr. Part of what's making this so bad is probably some self-fulfilling prophecy on my part, but. There are other things that I can't really explain away as my fault. It's cool though, totally cool.
A bunch of my other relationships have been growing stronger while I wasn't even paying attention. My roomie and her pursuer from across the hall and I are all really close now, for one. We are planning a summer camping trip to the woods, toot toot!

[info]jack_and_ellis has been updated, so, cliffhanger no more!

You can find the end of Chapter 29 here, and the beginning of Chapter 30 here. Enjoy. :) Clare makes friends, the doctor speaks, and Ellis has a minor nervous breakdown (possibly well-justified).

So yesterday was basically the worst day ever, I spent a lot of time being aggressively patient at people on the phone, I'm really very sick, I slept on a bare mattress last night, I carried three amazingly heavy bags to the airport, Woland's keyboard seems the worst for wear...

But I'm home.

I love having my own room. My own beautiful, quiet, empty, huge, sensibly furnished room. And Donovan.

Yet Another Obsession

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 12:03 AM
So another random post.  I swear I'll tell y'all what I've been up to soon... I swear.

First off:  House and Bones blew me away tonight.  I mean, they weren't 100% great or anything, but man were they Up There.  I just want to hug Zack.  And I can't really say any more on Amber than [info]molly_commas has already said.  *clings to CTB*

Pee Ess:  Did anyone else note that Thirteen finally got a proper name?

On to my original purpose.  I feel I must inform you all of a new obsession.  Beyond Medical Investigation, I mean.  A few weeks ago I saw trailers for a new mini-series on HBO.  The mini was created by the same team that brought us Band of Brothers (Exec. producer Tom Hanks, etc.).  The subject?  John Adams.

This struck several chords with me.  One: They created BoB, so it had to be good.  Two: I'm a history dork in the extreme... I specialize in early American history.  Three: It looked to be Darn Good Acting.

Alas, I do not have HBO and could not watch John Adams when it aired.  But I finally was able to leech off of a friend and use their On Demand.

Within twenty seconds, I knew I'd love it.  Call me strange, but the opening sequence just made me shiver.  The MUSIC.  The FLAGS.  GUH.

I've watched four of seven episodes, and I can't wait to see the rest!  It drags at points, but what history-based show doesn't?  It gives a sense of atmosphere that completely draws you in, just like BoB did.  They portray the historical figures as they should - as complicated, frustrating, lovable, sometimes horrible people.  Ben Franklin?  AMAZING.  John himself is incredible.  And guess who played Washington?  Why, David Morse

I'm not saying it was 100% accurate or anything.  But the atmosphere and the character and the intent was just... I have no words.

The last scene I watched was the inauguration of Washington.  Let's just say I was a puddle of history-loving goo.

The friend zone is a term in which people themselves made up, as you know.  It describes what guys and/or girls feel when they are stuck in this alternation between wanting to be something more then friends, while one is fixated on being friends, and nothing more.  This usually causes the one person to have severe stress over what to do, especially if the emotions are felt more than just liking on a physical and emotional level, in example, loving them.

The person stuck in this friend zone is then emotionally struck down by stress, and possibly fear.  They care too much for the person they are stuck in the friend zone with to destroy a relationship, because, as we all know, intimate relationships can sometimes break apart rather quickly;  friendships, these can last a much longer time.

Nothing is permanent. Especially when you're young. You can't live life consumed with the fear of rejection or things not working out. You have to look at what good can become the chances you take, or you won't ever take them.

Females, as sexist as this sounds, often see things as, “oh we feel the same way” when in reality, that is not how it is.  You see things in your perspective.  I will explain this to the reader… you do not see anything how a male sees it unless you’re a male.  A female may be deep, intellectual, caring, genuine, ect and have a shot at a lot of guys.  A female has a lot likelier chance of finding someone than a male does.  A female has a line of guys that are her friends, confessing to her, “Oh we love you” and when a male that truly cares, and would die for the girl, sits back as a friend and says, “Why ruin it.” A girl may say, “I feel the same way about some guys,” but you really do not.  You can not imagine how completely destructive this is to the male mind.  We would die on the cross as to please the woman we love and care for deeply, but are taken as liers and manipulators.

Stop generalizing. Stop making assumptions about the way other men feel. About the way women feel. You don't know how other people feel. You're voicing a personal opinion about yourself: don't try to put other people under it. Women and men have an equally difficult role to play in life. Not all women, especially the "intellectual, caring, genuine" kind, have lines of men waiting to confess their undying love for them. They have to seek out people. Your viewpoint on women is skewed. Women are presumably more likely to find sexual encounters than men are, not love. If a man can't tell me "Oh I love you," then how am I to know how he actually feels? If men would "die on the cross" to please a woman, then why can they not take the chance of being honest about their true feelings for us? The only being jeopardized is your pride. A nonmutal feeling can be healed, like everything else in life. Who can say they have not been accused as a liar or manipulative? Your suppressed emotions will only act as a catalyst to these empty accusations.

We are destroyed as human beings by rejections, even if it is such a simple thing.  We are often completely petrified of confronting a girl.  I can not speak on behalf of women, but it is terrifying.  I feel, as I am biased, so take none of this as fact, that women have it much easier on the serious relationship scale.  Women can easily soloed out as whores, or as beautiful people.   Men, I suppose, can be singled out the same way, just as easily, but we are still destroyed, as I am sure women are.

To the subject of the friend zone; women have it differently, having the choice between guys and which one is right is much easier, because as a guy, we are pushed aside for the one that seems just right, when a few of us would bend over backwards to get a hug, or just simply to be talked to.

Surely you are not so naive that you think women have a buffet of men at their disposal, to dissect and analyze until they have found one that suits them. You are not "pushed aside." There are people out there for you. There is someone that wants you. Women, especially in this modern world we live in, are equally taxed with the longing to have someone. If you would bend over backwards for so little, why can you not put yourself on the line for the woman you want?

I suppose this was simply not something I could put onto e-paper, but only into words from my mouth.  Maybe I will voice record; maybe I won’t.  All I can say is, when I see women say, “we feel the same way” you do not.  You opinion is not valid.  It is void.  It is completely and utterly useless, because women, you, are the cause of our problems… and many of you can not see in front of you at your own basic flaws--blindness.

feel (v.) - To undergo an emotional reaction
Don't tell anyone they do not feel something. You have no idea what other people feel. If someone feels the same thing you describe and admits that to you, you can not deny them it.

opinion (n.)- Something believed or accepted as true by a person
By a person. By a person. Opinions can not be invalid. They can not be void. An opinion is something a person feels. It can not be deemed "valid" by another person because the only true opinions are those thought within the confines of our own mind.

Perhaps we are not the cause of your problems. Perhaps I am not the cause of your fear and insecurity. This is something rooted deep inside of you, which no approval from any girl can ever excavate. You have to fix this yourself. If you do not like where you are in life, change it. Do something about it. Only you can move yourself. The only power you allow women to have over you is the power you give them.

And finally, do not ever call me blind. It is my opinion

...that we, as humans, are equally blind in varying respects of life. Men and women alike.

If the Nightrunner books were to be made into a movie/movies, who would you cast in the roles of the main characters? How about the Tamir Trilogy (if that's okay to ask on this community)?

(Personally, I don't have anything close to a complete cast in mind. I do kind sort of fancy David Krumholtz as Arkoniel, though if anyone were to ask me why, I wouldn't be able to say. I stumbled across him in Serenity and he's been my mental image of the character ever since.)

Seriously, guys, that was awesome.

*high fives the entire Cafe*

We are the kings and beloveds of Mornington Crescent. That went over every bit as well as I hoped it would. Plus, Coworker C caught me with the BART map open (he's another California expat) and I had to explain why I was relearning Bay Area transit systems. So I taught the game to him, and he's off infecting the rest of Chicago with it.

Best game ever.

hey guys, I've been slacking off on my gym time lately, but I really need to lose those last 5-7 lbs to fit into my size 4 wedding gown, and time is running short! My trainer says that it's easier for larger people to lose weight faster once they start working out, because it burns more calories to move around more weight.

so what are some tips for those of us finally nearing our goals, but struggling with that last little bit?

Weight Watchers

I've been thinking of joining Weight Watchers to eat healthier and lose weight. If anyone here has joined Weight Watchers, I was wondering what it was like. How was the first meeting? Do they weigh you? Is it difficult to keep up with? What exactly happens at these meetings?
I really appreciate any input.

A Letter to erinm_4600...

(There will be another post later full of the random adventures of [info]oddsbobs - who did not actually fall off the face of the earth, in case you were wondering - but I need to do something fun before cleaning my room.)

Dear Erin,

In regards to the show known as Medical Investigation, I find myself in a quandary.  Do you deserve a gold star for opening my eyes to its gloriousness, or should I take one from you for being an enabler?  I've finished watching the all the episodes some time ago now.  I suppose it is high time for me to repay you for your kindness by embarking on a fangirlish post.

Hugs and fairy dust,

ETA:  In an odd instance of coincidence and appropriateness, it is also apparently McDonough-day.  Which is awesome.

*rubs hands together*

It's afternoon, I'm too well-fed to think, and work is slow. Let's play Mornington Crescent! *bright look*

We'll play by Chicago Independent Rules, but as it's the internet I suppose I could enforce electronic tagback exceptions for those outside the Standard Candian Gameplay boundaries. Remember that with Chicago Independent, unlike Chicago Standard, the river matters.

Cermak-Chinatown is the goal, except in reversals. If you need assistance, the appropriate maps are here and here. In the case of a full or one quarter rotation you will need the map located here as well.

NB: Within Standard Canadian Gameplay boundaries, small magellanic clouds are not considered full turn play.

I shall begin; remember this is a multiplayer set and thus you always pass to your left, except when you don't.

Sheridan Red Line!
School's out for the summer ever.
